With production currently rumoured for April, Platinum Dune’s Ninja Turtles seems to have found its first official cast member. That cast member will be none other than Megan Fox.
Michael Bay himself has taken to his official site to post, “TMNT: we are bringing Megan Fox back into the family!”
Overseen by Bay, the relaunching of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has already come under massive scrutiny and backlash, none more so than when it was revealed that the Turtles would be an alien race rather than mutants… y’know, as in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Hence the name change.
Bay, of course, worked with Fox on 2007′s Transformers and 2009′s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. What’s a little surprising to me, when Fox left the Transformers franchise she wasn’t exactly full of praise for the films or for Michael Bay. I guess old wounds mend easily in Hollywood.
Whilst her role in Ninja Turtles is yet to be confirmed, I’d probably put my house on her playing April O’Neil. O’Neil is a news reporter who befriends the Turtles and works alongside them.
One thing that does jump out at me is that Bay’s message included the acronym TMNT, as in short for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Considering he’d previously dropped the Teenage and Mutant parts of the title, maybe he’s seen the error of his ways. Either way, for now at least, the film is still known officially as Ninja Turtles.
Directed by Jonathan Liebesman, the film is set for a 16th May, 2014 release.
