After appearances in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger and Avengers Assemble, Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury is hugely associated with Marvel’s recent ‘Phase One’ batch of films. With Iron Man 3 on the way next summer, it was obvious to presume that Jackson’s Fury would be involved in some form. Not so, according to Jackson himself.

In an interview with Total Film, Jackson revealed that the next time you see Nick Fury will be in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Jackson explained, “I think my next time as Nick Fury is in Captain America: The Winter Soldier because I’m not in Iron Man 3. None of the Avengers are in Iron Man 3. It’s a standalone Iron Man movie.”

There’s been plenty of rumours to suggest that the Black Widow would be making an appearance in Iron Man 3, although that’s not the case if Jackson is to be believed. With Fury apparently not making his next appearance until the sequel to Joe Johnston’s Captain America: The First Avenger, that means he won’t be popping up in either Iron Man 3 or Thor: The Dark World, both of which are released before the next installment in the Cap saga.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is set for a 4th April, 2014 release. The film sees Chris Evans return as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, with Frank Grillo joining the franchise as the villainous Crossbones and Sebastian Shaw’s Bucky Barnes returning from the grave as the Winter Soldier.
